The number of people working from home is growing tremendously recently. According to an article from Asia News, the number has crossed 1 million in Beijing and 700,000 in Shanghai.
There are pros and cons for this practice but from the employee point of view, I personally would prefer to work from home but it still depends on the nature of our job. Communications can always
be done via phone calls, video conference call, VOIP calls like Skype and event remotely control the computer or equipment in the office via Virtual Private Network.
Benefits of work from homeĀ
Cost Cutting
For employer: It saved company electricity and office space. Employee can back to office once or twice per week for project status updates and still keep in touch with their colleagues.
For employee: It saved our fuel and also the time we got trap in the traffic jams. It’s good for our environment as well as it reduce carbon dioxide from our vehicles. You also may save the money on babysitter for your children.
Improve productivity
Focus on we are committed for delivery rather then wasting time of chit chatting among colleagues. This will get rid of those employees who like to pretend how busy they are in the office but in fact they produce nothing. Performance review shall be come from productivity and not from hours of our working hours.
Reduce Stress
We can stay away from office politics and unnecessary communication among bosses and colleagues, we make our own working schedule. when we are tired, we can play with our dogs, have fun with our children, have dinner with family and continue to work after that.
So, Malaysians, are we ready to work from home?
