die hard 4

Just watched Die Hard 4 yesterday with my wife. I’m amaze with the high-tech technology used in this movie, where a hackers can take control over the transportation, financial and even energy generation system of the whole US. They can even hack into another person’s network and have a video conference with their web cam. Every single traffic light is under you total control, and I’m wondering if this going to happen in our real life, all thief will never have the ability to run away…he will get caught in the traffic jam till the police arrives.

I read an interesting article from Asia News Network recently. I’m sure the most people will be familiar with the series of the CSI movie that the police team using high-tech forensic devices, just like what we have in Die Hard 4. But in real life, things are totally different. Asia News Network done a first ever interview with Technology Crime Division (TCD) in Singapore.

One of the example given is that we have seen so many super-tech gadget that will zoom-n to enlarges a selected portion of video, but in reality, it’s not going to have that super clear version of the image. As the pixels enlarged, the enlarged image will become less clear.

There are also not instantly matching of fingerprint like those shown in CSI. They need to compare the fingerprints with their naked eye.

So what i would said is, movie is still mainly for entertainment purposes, it still need some times for this high-tech devices to become a reality.

Well I haven’t seen Die Hard 4 yet but looking forward to it. But as far as what the author said on this article about the fingerprint system being used. Well I didn’t really understand why the police have to match the fingerprints manually, does it really take such a long time, I mean I am not sure maybe someone can explain me. Due to the reason in my high school, their is fingerprint technology from M2SYS used in the lunch meal times and the fingerprint reader was also little cute. Actually we just go through the line and scan our fingerprints and shows within few seconds our fingerprint matched. I guess I think its different from a person fingerprinting and matching a fingerprint extracted from a crime scene?

It’s because when you scan your finger, the image the scanner sees is compared to the one that’s already been stored. So it’s easy for it to do it, since it can scan your finger all it wishes, and so on.

However, it’s a bit different with a fingerprint on a crime scene: It’s almost never whole, and it’s almost never easy to get a good removal of it neither.

That and the human eye have some really funky image recognition software that leave computers in the dust.
Our eye software, so to speak is very, very advanced.
